Escape the February chill, and revel in a warm Latin ambiance at Howard County Library's upcoming fundraising gala, Evening in the Stacks ¡Caliente! On Saturday, February 27 the Library's East Columbia Branch will be transformed into an sultry destination, filled with the colors, music, and heat of Latin America. This year's literary panel, moderated by Bill Thompson, features H.G. Carrillo and Francisco Aragon.

Francisco Aragón is the author of Puerta del Sol (Bilingual Press) and editor of The Wind Shifts: New Latino Poetry (University of Arizona Press). His poems and translations (from the Spanish) have appeared in various anthologies and journals. Aragón is also founding editor of Momotombo Press and directs Letras Latinas—the literary program of the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame.

H.G. Carrillo is author of Losing My Espanish (Pantheon), his critically acclaimed debut novel. LatinoStories.com named Carrillo as one of the Top Ten “New” Latino  Authors to Watch (and Read) in 2006. His writings and articles have appeared in various publications including National Geographic Books and The Iowa Review. Carrillo is an English professor at George Washington University.

Bill Thompson is an interviewer for his web site, eyeonbooks.com, which Smart Computing calls “The ultimate writer interview site online.”

All proceeds from Evening in the Stacks benefit the Library's educational initiatives, including Summer Reading Clubs, Teen Time, Dogs Educating and Assisting Readers (DEAR), Project Literacy, and Battle of the Books.
